Witch Lantern

Make this paper witch lantern this October to get ready for Halloween. This would be an adorable project for a Halloween party at school. It is super simple to create and kids will love flying their witch lantern around.

To begin you will need a large piece of 18x24 inch piece of black paper. This will be the large base of the lantern. You will also need to print out a witch's face and hat.

To create the lantern, begin by cutting off a strip of black paper about 2 inches long. This will be put aside and used to make the handle for the lantern.

Next, fold the paper in half ( like a hotdog). You will then cut strips on the paper, start on the folded side and cut all the way up leaving around 1-2 inches at the end. Continue to do this along the length of the entire paper.

Unfold the paper and roll the paper into a tube in the opposite way of the cuts you made. Use a stapler to connect the paper at the ends. Add a staple at the top and the bottom of the lantern. Next, add the strip of paper you saved and staple it at the top to create the handle for the lantern.

Next, prepare the witch's face. You can print it on green paper. Take the print out and fold the piece of paper in half. Using scissors round the end of the face. Glue the face to the top of the lantern

Prepare the hat to add to the witch's head. The hat can be printed out on black paper and cut out. Then, glue the hat at the top of the witch's face.

You can create and add hands and a broom for the witch. Use the same green paper you used for the face to make the hands. Draw hands and cut out. These can then be glued onto the base of the lantern.

Make a simple broom by cutting a black piece of paper into a long rectangle shape. Draw a broom end on a piece of brown paper. Cut out the broom shape. Add lines to the top of the broom end. Use scissors to cut slits on the end of the broom. This will then be glued to the broom stick. The broom can then be added into the hands of the witch.
