Stingray Craft

This stingray craft is a great realistic representation of the animal. There is so much to learn about the stingray. When my family visited the Georgia Aquarium, I learned there are over 200 different kinds of stingrays species. Believe it or not, stingrays are fish related to sharks. They can live in rivers or the ocean. Learn more about stingrays by visiting an aquarium or reading about them online or in a book from the library.

This stingray craft is easy to make, to begin print out the papers needed to create your stingray on gray paper. You can also choose another color that may fit another stingray you learned about with your child. You will need 2 body shapes. You can find the template here.

After, cut out the pieces of the stingray. The lines of the cut outs are thick to allow for any cutting mistakes.



Use several coffee filters to create a bump to place in the front of the stingray’s body. Bunch it together and place a piece of tape to keep it together. Tape the coffee filter to the front, center end of the body of the stingray. Next, attach the other body of the strong ray on top of the one you have taped the coffee filter to. There are several ways you can attach the bodies together. You can staple, glue or used double sided tape. Each come with their own pros and cons.






This step adds to the realism of your stingray craft.
Now, glue the tail to the back of the stingray’s body.

Add details to the stingray's body. Use a black marker to add a nose and mouth to the bottom side of the stingray. It looks like a smiley face when drawn. Then, add gills along the side.



Next, create the eyes my drawing a circle on scrap gray paper. Next, add a black line for the eyelid and a circle on the eye.



Make eyes for the stingray with scrap gray paper.
To complete the stingray glue the eyes onto the top of the face.



Add the eyes to the stingray.
The completed stingray is create for creative play or for using on a bulletin board display in a classroom.
