Spider 8
During fall, we sometimes think of certain animals. Spiders are sometimes associated with Halloween for being creepy or scary. So, take some time to teach your child characteristics of real spiders.
Here are so characteristics of spiders:
- Spiders have 2 main body parts. The head and the thorax make up the first and the abdomen is the second.
- Spiders have simple eyes. This means it has 1 lens.
- Spiders usually have 8 eyes. Some spiders have 6 or fewer. Few spiders have good eyesight.
- Spiders have 8 walking legs.
Create this cute spider using the number 8. It will reinforce the facts that all spiders have 8 walking legs and most have 8 legs. The shape of the number 8 also reinforces that it has 2 main body parts.
- Print out the template, it can be printed on black paper or printed out using black ink. Have your child cut out the 8, including the circles in the middle. This is a great time to show them how they can fold the paper slightly and cut a small slit in the center. This will allow your child to get their scissors into the center and cut around the circle. Allow your child to try and help them if needed.
- Use the scraps from cutting the 8 out or get a scrap piece of black. Cut out 8 black strips of paper to use as legs. Glue 4 legs on each side of the spider's body.
- Next, glue 8 googly eyes to your spider's head. I used the smallest size I had.
How cute is this spider? I love how it reinforces the body parts of a spider at the same time.
