Shape Skelton

This spooky season, make a skeleton to hang up for Halloween. Skeletons are associated with Halloween and the Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead or Dia de los muertos. This holiday is a joyful celebration where loved one celebrate the lives of their deceased relatives. Many people celebrate with sugar painted skull cookies or by painting their face with a joyful skull. Let your child create their very own skeleton by cutting out simple shapes to put it together.

To begin, print out a copy of the skeleton's skull. Cut it out and glue it at the top of a piece of a black piece of paper. If you enjoy doing crafts often, purchase a package of 12x18 construction paper to have a variety of colors to use for other craft projects.

Using a piece of white paper or using scraps, cut a long rectangular strip to glue in place as a spine.

Next, cut three additional rectangular pieces for ribs of three different lengths. Glue them in order from longest to shortest across the spine.

Next cut a fat rectangle to place as the hips. Leave about 2 inches below the last rib and then glue the hips into place.

Next, create the arms and fingers. You will need 2 more thin, rectangle pieces for the arms. Then, glue a small rectangle for the hand and add small rectangles for the fingers. Repeat on the opposite side to make both arms.

Lastly, cut rectangles of various sizes to make the legs, feet and toes.

Allow your child to glue the bones in any way. Make it look like the skeleton is running or bending his knees. Your child will love how quick and easily they can make this skeleton on his/her own. This also gives them a great opportunity to practice their cutting skills.
