Shape Gumball Machine
This shape gumball machine is a fun way to practice shapes and to have fun with painting. I created the shapes made to create this gumball machine using a variety of shapes. As you create, ask your child to identify the shapes they see. You can also ask them to show you a circle, square, etc. Alternatively you can ask your child, what shapes is not a part of this gumball machine?
One shape that may be new is a trapezoid, the bottom of the gumball machine. So, what is a trapezoid? A trapezoid is a quadrilateral with at least one set of parallel sides. Did you know a rectangle and a square are also classified as a trapezoid? How cool will it be for your little one to add this word to their math vocabulary?
Supplies:
- Paint
- Round sponge brush
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Silver marker or gray crayon
- Shape Gumball Machine Template
Instructions:
- Print out the gumball machine template. I chose to print my gumball machine pieces on red, you can choose any color you would like.
- Next, cut out all the pieces of the gumball machine.
- Take the large red circle and cut it in half to create the top of the gumball machine. After cutting, glue the small circle to the top.
- Glue this red top to the top of the white circle.
- Cut out the small rectangular piece and color silver or gray.
- Glue the pieces together to form the gumball machine. The red trapezoid will be glued at the bottom of the white circle. Glue the silver piece you colored onto the red trapezoid.
- Now you are ready to add the gumballs. Select the colors you would like for creating your gumballs. I used a foam sponge brush to create the gumballs. It would also be fun to use your child's thumb or finger to create the gumballs.
