Shape Frankenstein
Halloween is a fun time for creating arts and crafts. Simply print simple shapes out on colored paper to make this Halloween friendly Frankenstein.
Identifying shapes
This activity is a great way to see if your child can identify simple shapes. This activity includes circles, squares, rectangles and triangles. As your child works to cut out the shapes don't stress if they are not cut perfect. You can however ask your child, What shape are you cutting out? How many squares are there? What are some shapes you know that are not a part of this Frankenstein? These questions can lead to more conversation about the shapes other attributes as well.
Attributes of shapes
Take this activity a step further by teaching your child about attributes of shapes. Attributes are something about a shape that makes it similar or different from another shape. Start with simple attributes like size, color and number of sides. After you can move to number of corners and if the shape is open or closed.
Directions:
- Download the Frankenstein template and print of the correct color paper.
- Have your child cut out all the shapes. It is okay of these are no perfect. Help your child as needed, but keep in mind that this is great practice for their fine motor skills. You can help them cut out the details on some of the pieces.
- Begin by gluing the triangle across the top of the green square to make Frankenstein's hair.
- Next, glue on the eyes and eyebrows. I angled the eyebrows on his face.
- The T shape will be glued on the side of his face to make the bolts on his face
- Cut the circles in half. Glue the smaller half circle on top of the other to create an ear. Glue the ears on the side of the face.
- Next, glue the nose in the middle of the face.
- Lastly, use a black marker to add details including a smile and stiches.
