Pufferfish painted craft

It is easy to make this art of pufferfish in the ocean. The summer is a great time to learn about ocean animals. Pufferfish are know for their ability to transform when in danger. They can fill up with air and inflate their body into a ball. Take some time to explore more about pufferfish by visiting your local library to check out some books on pufferfish. You could also take a trip to a local aquarium to see if they have any pufferfish to view.
This paint craft is a fun way to show children how they can use everyday objects to create art. To begin this project, I used a piece of alcohol dyed paper. You can visit this page for instruction to create your own paper. Of course, you can also use a blue piece of construction paper or cardstock.

Next, use a lid top to create a circle for each pufferfish's body using paint. It is great to save a variety of tops from jars, or drinks to help in the creation of art.

Use a paintbrush to add some paint to the outside of a lid to create a perfect circle.
Next, you will paint the inside of the circle. Repeat this to add some more pufferfish to the background.

Paint the inside of each circle with the coordinating paint color.
After, dip a toothpick into the paint color to add the spikes around the outside of the fish. Repeat this again for the other circles.

Use a toothpick to add the spikes around the pufferfish.
Next, add bubbles to the background of the picture. Utilize some saves lids again, dipped in white paint. This time I used two different sizes of marker tops to create different sized bubbles around the paper.

Add bubbles use marker tops dipped in white paint.
Then, you will need to print or trace the pufferfish fins on colored construction paper or cardstock. You will need 2 fins for each fish. You can let your child choose any color they would want. Coordinate the fin colors with the color of the circles you have made. Use a black marker to add details to the fins.

Trace and cut out 2 fins for each pufferfish.
Create eyes for the pufferfish out of a small black paper circle glued on top of a white paper circle. You can create these using a paper punch, however you can also freehand the circles or trace using a drink lid.

Last, add a mouth to the pufferfish by drawing an oval under the eyes with a back marker.
