Ornament Christmas Tree Math

Ornament Christmas Tree Math

Understanding the relationship between numbers and quantities is an important skill in the beginning of your child's relationship with math. When children see a number, they should be able to pair objects with that number. Your child should also be able to count out objects for the number 1-10. This activity will allow your child to practice these skills while decorating a tree for Christmas.

Start by preparing this activity for your child by printing and cutting the trees and stars. You can print as many trees as you want or you can choose to move the star after completing one number.

Print and cut out the tree and stars for this activity

Next, provide your child with a variety of small items to decorate the tree. Please choose items that will work for your child. Place the items in a tray or cupcake lines. Place a star at the top of the tree.

As you child works here are some questions and comments you can make.

  • "What number is this?"
  • "Can you put that many on the tree to decorate it?"
  • "Put one on at a time and count as you put each item on."
  • "How many did you put on the tree?"
Give your child a variety of items to add to the tree.
