Mason Jar of Conversation Hearts

Mason Jar of Conversation Hearts

Have you ever spotted a sign at the Dollar Tree that you liked the shape, but not the design? I often see these and wind up buying them for some future use. They sit with my craft supplies waiting for just the right idea.

Recently, I looked at some craft wooden hearts I had and decided to create some conversational hearts out of them. I began by painting my wooden hearts with acrylic paints. I did some reds and pinks. As I waited for them to dry, I created sayings using my Silhouette Cameo Machine and cut them out on white vinyl.

I created these conversational heart sayings on vinyl.

After my paint was completely dry, I added the vinyl saying onto some of the hearts.

So, my vision was to create a mason jar full of conversation heart using a mason jar I had purchased awhile ago from the Dollar Tree.

I wanted to transform this sign for Valentine's Day

So, to get started I began to remove the image on the mason jar. Most of these sign are covered with a thin paper image. I simply peeled the paper slightly and sprayed the image with water. After allow the water to sit, it is easy to scrape the paper off with a metal or plastic scraper. Repeat until the image is completely removed. You will need to allow the wood to dry before moving onto the next step.

Remove all paper. You can lightly sand the surface to ensure all the paper is removed.

Next, I painted the jar white on the bottom and silver on the top. I added some details to the jar I created on my Silhouette Cameo cutting machine.

Using a hot glue gun, I glued the conversation hearts into place on the jar. I placed the hearts on the jar before gluing to make sure I liked the arrangement of the conversation hearts.

Next, I added some red and white twine to the top of the jar in between the white and silver parts.

To complete the look I create a bow. I used a variety of different ribbons. I gathered small pieces of ribbon and criss crossed them into a X shape. After I was satisfied with the bow, I grabbed it in the middle and tied a piece of red ribbon in the middle. Then, I glued it onto the top of the mason jar.
