Little Acorn Craft

Little Acorn Craft

I came across the book "Little Acorn" by Igloobooks. The acorn character is adorable and the story goes through how an acorn grows and changes over time. Watch little acorn change from green to brown as the seasons change. Eventually, little acorn sprouts and changes to a sapling and finally an oak tree.

I wanted to create an easy craft that can be completed with few supplies. All you need is a print out of the acorn, you can let your child choose whether they would like a green or a brown acorn. Then, you will need some scrap paper, markers and a glue stick.

To begin print out the acorn in your choice of color. You can print on cardstock or construction paper. To print on construction paper, simply cut the paper the size of a piece of printer paper and add it to your printer.

Next, use scrap brown paper or a coordinating scrapbook paper. Cut the paper into small pieces. You can let your child do this to help them practice their cutting skills. When completed, simply glue the pieces of paper on the top portion of the acorn. Continue gluing the pieces until you cover the entire top, overlap pieces as needed. Don't worry if pieces go over the edge since the acorn will be cut out after this step.

Next, cut out the acorn. It is ready for your child to decorate with markers. Use markers to add eyes, a smile and pink cheeks to the acorn's face.

Lastly, use a black marker to draw lines across the top of the acorn.

You can make the acorn in green as well.

Extension: Add an activity about the life cycle of an acorn. Print and let your child glue to pieces in the correct order. This is a great fall activity to learn about life cycles of living things.
