Jabari Jumps Retelling Sensory Bag

Jabari Jumps Retelling Sensory Bag

Sensory bags are a wonderful way for children to learn and explore. They can be used by babies all the way up to elementary school. Sensory bags are beneficial for many reasons and they are easy to make with simple items put into a ziploc bag.

Sensory bags allow children to explore, create, imagine and discover all while engaging their senses. Children will also work and develop their fine motor skills while manipulating and handling the objects within the bag. Sensory bags can be calming and soothing for children as they explore the senses of touch and sight. As children explore the objects they can also develop language and social skills. Sensory bags can also be used to develop literacy skills, math skills and can work on fine motor handwriting development.

“Jabari Jumps” by Gaia Cornwall is about Jabari a boy who visits the pool with his dad. Jabari is excited to jump off the diving board after passing his swimming test.  But the diving board is so high and Jabari has fears about jumping. Jabari’s dad talks to him about how he can get over being scared.  This sensory bag includes divers, bubbles and a diving board allowing children to retell the story. Children can also tell an alternate ending or make up a new story.
