Create one of these animals hibernating. Many animals hibernate during the winter including groundhogs, bears and hedgehogs. Pick one of these animals and create a bed for their hibernating. This is a great activity to do after learning about winter animals that hibernate. It is great because kids can be creative in decorating the blanket and by adding extras to the animal.

This comes together easily by printing templates and getting started. After printing cut out the templates. I printed the templates and then traced the needed pieces onto scrap paper I had. Allow your child to pick any color for the blanket and the background.

Make use of scraps of paper. I save usable scraps in a container and pull them out when I need a piece of a certain color.
Next, get creative and decorate the blanket. To begin I started by using a scrap of orange paper. I cut a scalloped edge and then glue it to the edge of the blanket. After, I traced over the ruffle to make it stand out more.

Use paper and marker to create a design of your choice on the blanket.
Next, I used a paper punch I had to punch squares from various scraps of paper I had. I then glued them onto the blanket.

Glues squares onto the blanket to create design.
Next, lift the edge of the bed and glue the head of the groundhog down. Add its ears to the side of the head.

Glue the ears on the side of the head.
Next, glue the two brown circle on the top of the blanket to look like the groundhog's hands.

Glue the hands on top of the blanket.
Glue the oval piece into the center of the face. Lift the oval and glue two teeth for the groundhog. Use a marker or crayon to draw a nose on the face. Finish the look by drawing curved rainbow shapes to look like sleeping eyes.
