Hibernating Bear Craft

Hibernating Bear Craft

Create one of these animals hibernating. Many animals hibernate during the winter including groundhogs, bears and hedgehogs. Pick one of these animals and create a bed for their hibernating. This is a great activity to do after learning about winter animals that hibernate. It is great because kids can be creative in decorating the blanket and by adding extras to the animal.

This comes together easily by printing templates and getting started. After printing cut out the templates. Allow your child to pick any color for the blanket and the background.

Next, get creative and decorate the blanket. To begin I started by using a heart doily I had from the Dollar Tree. I cut it to size to fit on the blanket to create a ruffled trim for the blanket.

Next, I used a paper punch I had to punch circles from various scraps of paper I had. I then glued them onto the blanket.

Next, time to make the sleeping bear. Cut the two ovals in half on the solid line in the middle. This will create the inner and outer ear pieces. Glue the ears to the side of the oval.

Glue the oval piece into the center of the face. Use a marker or crayon to draw a nose. After, draw a line down from the nose and add a circle. Color the circle in to make the bear look like he is sleeping. Finish the look by drawing curved rainbow shapes to look like sleeping eyes.

To complete the sleeping bear, glue the completed head to the top of the blanket. Then, glue the brown ovals as the hands. Add the lines to complete the hands.
