Farm Animal DIY Hen

Farm Animal DIY Hen

Farm animals are so fun to learn about. While learning about farm animals kids can be introduced to the sounds animals make and basic colors of animals. Pair this craft with a book about farm animals or a trip to a local farm. You can also talk to your child about which foods we get from different animals.

Hens are so important for the yummy eggs we eat everyday. Talk to your child about the role they play in our food supply. It may also be possible to visit a neighbor who has their own chicken coop. After, you can create this adorable hen. Let your child choose the colors for the hen and its feathers. You may even want to get some non fiction books about chickens to show them the different color variations of hens.

First, print out the papers needed to create your hen. Did you know you can easily print on construction paper. All you need to do is cut it to size, I like to use a piece of printer paper as a guide. Then, cut your construction paper to the same size. After, simply place it in your printer as you normally do.

Print out the papers for your hen using construction paper in your printer.

After, cut out the pieces of the hen. Allow your child to practice their cutting skills by cutting on their own. The lines of the cut outs are thick to allow for any cutting mistakes.

Cut all the pieces out and get ready to assemble the hen.

Next, glue the feathers onto the side of the hen's body and on the top of its head.

Glue the feathers onto the hen's body.

Next, have your child color the middle part of the eye their color of choice. Then glue the eye and beak onto the hen's face.

Add details to the hen's body. Allow your child to do this with markers, crayons or paint. Again you may want to provide a book or pictures from online as an example of what hen's look like.
