Dollar Tree Heart Décor

Dollar Tree Heart Décor

I LOVE to decorate for the holidays. I like having décor in my house to celebrate the season and holidays. I also feel like it helps me dust ( especially high shelves). I love to create my own items to use in my home, it is fun and I can create whatever I want. I had purchased these plastic hearts from the Dollar Tree one year for Valentine's Day. They were great for placing a small toy for my students as a Valentine. I had several left over and saved them hoping to repurpose them for a craft one day. I recently found them in the Valentine's section and bought some more. I decided to make some decoupaged hearts to display on my table. I love decoupage, it is fun and easy. As I prepared I searched through my scrapbook paper. I often will buy it when it is on sale or at a thrift store or garage sale. I pound some great print and colors that I thought would be fun to display.

Supplies:

  1. Heart containers- available at Dollar Tree
  2. Mod Podge- I used glossy
  3. Craft Sponge Brush
  4. Scrapbook paper of your choice
  5. Pliers
  6. Silicone Mat for Crafting

Instructions:

  1. First, you will need to use a pair of pliers to remove the plastic hanging piece at the top.
  1. Prepare your scrapbook paper. I used about 1/3 of a 12x12 sheet of scrapbook paper. I cut it into strips and then into squares for easy attaching.
  1. Next, begin gluing the paper square onto the heart. Use a sponge brush to apply the Mod Podge. I like these sponge brushes best for decoupage because you can easily push the sponge and get quite a bit a use out of one dip in the Mod Podge. I applied some Mod Podge to the heart and then to the paper. This is also another reason I love to use the silicone mat for this project.
  1. Continue using the Mod Podge to attach the paper until you have completely covered the heart. Use your fingers to smooth out the paper and to mold it around the heart. You then want to apply a final coat of Mod Podge all over the heart.
  1. Last use your fingers to smooth out any bumps or raised paper.

I LOVE how these turned out! It was inexpensive and an easy way to add some decor to my table. I hope you try out this method on your own!
