Dinosaur Decorating Sensory Bag
Does your kiddo LOVE dinosaurs? This shampoo sensory bag can be used with their favorite dinosaur to decorate in any way you would like. I used flat gem stone I found at the Dollar tree. However, be creative you can pop anything into the bag of shampoo for your child to explore and manipulate.
Sensory bags are great for learning in all sorts of ways. You child will develop and work their fine motor skills as they move around objects, squish the shampoo and push it with their fingers. While pushing around the item you choose, have your child identify colors, count, and use their imagination to tell you a story about their dinosaur.
Some other ideas for placing in the bag are pom poms, pony beads, sequin, googly eyes, or buttons. Be creative and ask your child for their input. Kids are amazing at thinking of the most creative things.
To go along with this activity, here are some dinosaurs books I recommend reading with your child.
- "Tiny T-rex and the Impossible Hug" by Jonathan Stutzman
- "How to Catch a Dinosaur" by Adam Wallace
- "National Geographic Little Kids First Book of Big Dinosaurs" by Catherine D. Hughes
- "Never Let a Dinosaur Scribble!" by Diane Alber
- "How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?" by Jane Yolen: This book is one in a series of 25.
Supplies:
- Ziploc Bag
- Shampoo or hair gel ( I purchased from the Dollar Tree) Can use any color
- Gems ( purchased from Dollar Tree) or any other item you choose to add in.
- Cardstock
- Scissors
- Dinosaur Cut outs
Instructions:
- You will first need to prepare the Ziploc bag. Use some nail polish remover to remove the writing off the Ziploc bag. You will want the bag to be clear so your child can see everything in the bag.
- Next, fill the Ziploc bag with the blue shampoo. You can add much as you wish.
- Print out the Dinosaur cut out you would like to use.
- Cut out the dinosaur to leave the outline of the dinosaur for decorating.
- Add your items into the Ziploc bag with the shampoo. Remember, be creative and add as much as you want.
- Lay the dinosaur cut out on top of the Ziploc bag. Use Tape to attach the cutout to the bag. This will make it easier for your child to manipulate the items into the empty space to decorate the dinosaur.
- Push the items around to create your dinosaur.
