Cardinal Handprint Art
Create this adorable cardinal handprint art with your child. This is perfect to do with your child or in a classroom. Cardinals are very popular and can be seen in many states. Did you know it is the state bird of 7 states? Many people love to spot cardinals as they remind them of loved ones. You can take this activity a step further by reading and learning about cardinals.
Directions:
- Use red paint to paint your child's hand. Then, create a handprint with the red paint to create the cardinal's body. Have all fingers close together when pressing down.
2. Add a few lines at the bottom of the handprint to create the crest of the cardinal.
- When paint is dry, have your child cut out the handprint. Cut around the lines to create a crest.
- Use a piece of black paper and cut a small square. Show students how to round the edges of the square. Use a small piece of orange paper to create a beak. These are included in my FREE download on TPT. Look for the link at the end of this post.
- Glue the orange beak to the black paper. Add reinforcements to create eyes.
- Glue the black piece to the red handprint to create the cardinal’s face.
- Create a tree trunk and branches by tearing brown paper. Then have students use a glue tick to create tree.
- Have students glue the cardinal onto the branch of the tree.
- Use a q tip and white paint to add snow to the picture.
