Make your own Apple Pie
"The Apple Pie Tree" by Zoe Hall is the story of two sister who follow the life cycle of an apple tree from a bare tree to apples. At the end they make an apple pie they grew themselves.
Now you can make your own apple pie too! This is a great activity for imaginative play. It can even be used in a play kitchen. Allow your child to pretend to mix the ingredients and bake the pie. Fall is a great time for apples and who doesn't love and apple pie. Use the template provided by printing it out to make your own apple pie.
Print out the circle page on brown paper to use as the base of the pie. You can easily print on construction paper by cutting it to the size of a piece of paper and placing it in your printer.
Next, cut our apple slice out of white paper. This is a great opportunity to have your child practice cutting skills. This is a project where it does not matter what they apple slices look like. After cutting out the apple slices, have your child glue them into the brown circle pie bottom.
No apple pie is complete without cinnamon and sugar. I used brown and white glitter. I sprinkled it on after swirling glue over my apple slices. You can also add real cinnamon and sugar if you prefer. Make sure you give the glue time to dry before completing your pie.
While waiting for the glue to dry, color the top crust of the apple pie. I used a mix or markers and crayons to create a realistic looking crust.
I opted to staple the pie crust on top This way you can still flip the crust up and see what is inside your pie. Keep up the fun by continuing to use this art project for imaginative play.
