It's September and fall is just around the corner. I love many things about fall including apples. There are so many fun crafts that can be completed to teach your children about apples.

I recommend visiting your local library to check out some books about apples. Try for a variety of books including fiction and non fiction books.

You can take a trip to a local apple orchard, if there is one in your area. It is such a fun experience to go to pick your own apples, your children will have the best time. I also enjoy seeing the many varieties of apples that are available at each orchard. There will be some many different kinds at the orchard that you don't find in your local supermarket.

If you don't live close to an apple orchard, a great alternative is watching a video online. I do recommend viewing the videos before allowing your child to watch it.

This is a great video about how apples grow filmed at an apple orchard.

After learning about apples you can create an apple core craft, using a printable template. To begin, ask your child what color apple they want. You will then print or trace the patterns on the correct color paper.

Next, have your child cut the apple top and bottom out with scissors. Cutting with scissors is a great skill to help your child increase their hand and wrist strength. It will aid them as they get older to have a lot of practice cutting. Don't worry if the cutting is not perfect, it add character and individuality to your child's art.

Next, cut out the apple core. You can print this on white or beige paper. After printed, use a glue stick to attach it in the middle of the apple top and bottom.

Now, use a black marker or crayon to add seeds to the core of the apple. Let your child as as few or as many as they want. It may be helpful to look at a real apple core to allow your child to make a realistic looking apple core.

To finish they apple, cut and add the stem and leaf to the top of your apple.
